The Best Thing Ever Said About A Guy I Know

Halloween night we went to the same Halloween party in our neighborhood that we’ve been gone to for four years now. It’s always a great time for both the adults and the kids. Nothing was different this year except for one thing. One of the families who is traditionally a part of the festivities wasn’t there. They were traveling and they were missed but something was said about the Dad/husband that really stood out to me.
A few of the men were talking while following the kids around Trick or Treating. When asked where they were someone mentioned that he and his family were on a quick trip for their daughter. That’s when one of the other men said, “You talk about a guy who loves his wife and kids, ______ certainly does”. (Kept his name out in case he wouldn’t want me writing about him) Immediately I thought, “Wow, what a great thing to say about someone”. I’ve said it myself about him. I’ve said it more than once. However, hearing it come from someone else really jumped out at me.
“You talk about a guy who really loves his wife and kids”. What more could you ask for?
What’s better than being known as a great husband and father? Nothing I say. Yes, I am known for being on the radio. Some think that’s celebrity status but I certainly don’t. Yes, I’m also known for being the sexy lead singer of “The Hottest Cover Band in the Land”. Yes, I’m known for my quick wit and great looks...but I digress. Seriously, most of that is a joke (I’ll let you figure out what part). But does any of that compare with having another guy say what a great husband and father you are? Not in my world. That’s something we should all aspire to be. I try every day but often fall very short.
What that tells me is that he has put forth such an example of being a great husband and father that other men notice and quite possibly he influences others to do the same. It’s even different than hearing other women say it because they (women) are, quite often, looking to point out another guy’s good deeds to their significant other. Their view is somewhat tainted. To have another man who is a good husband and father say that is a sign of respect. That’s impressive.
Oh, what was I doing while we were talking about what a great husband and father he is? Yeah, I was checking out a very attractive Mom who was walking up right about that time to speak to us.
You’re right. Maybe I’m just writing this out of guilt.
