Breaking & Entering Christmas #1
WQEN/Birmingham AL, Tuesday 12/9/08

SPECIAL THANKS TO:

Dear Ace & TJ,
This is a letter about a very brave woman. She’s a single mother of 3 small children. She’s suffered with and survived through cancer over the last several years. These two daughters and son are beautiful and so loving, and they’re in need of a wonderful Christmas.
Not only is this woman brave for fighting through cancer while raising her children, she’s brave enough to make the decision to become a single mom and make moves away from the father who is not willing to work himself, but he’s content in having her work even when she had cancer…even picking up extra shifts.
I work for a company that works with her landlord. We’re helping in any way we can, certain bills are not in her name, but in the landlord’s name…just to insure that utilities don’t get cut off since she couldn’t even afford the deposits. She’s late sometimes, but ALWAYS keeps the landlord up to date on when she’s going to pay him. She’s not taking his generosity for granted, she’s grateful for the “safety net”, but would never take advantage. She’s still picking up every extra shift that is offered to her…anything to keep up with her bills and keep the children warm and fed.
From time to time, we’ll clean out a property and find some toys or kitchen supplies that this family gets second-hand, but as you can imagine, we’re all struggling in some way, and we still can’t provide everything that this young family needs.
Before the separation, this family lost everything because of a previous eviction, and they really are starting from scratch. Toys, blankets, bedding, food, even dishes and glasses and silverware for the kitchen. She needs everything…and we need a miracle to happen to make sure she gets by, let alone provide Christmas for her 6-year-old daughter, her 4-year-old daughter, and the 6-month-old baby boy that still sleeps in a pack-n-play because they cannot afford a crib right now.
Please help this woman and her children. They need some good news in their lives.
Signed…A friend that helps, but wants to help more…
