CHRIS BROWN NEVER MEANT TO SAY THAT HE DOESN'T REMEMBER ASSAULTING RIHANNA:
Tuesday September 1st, 2009
CHRIS BROWN taped an interview with LARRY KING last week, and it airs tomorrow night on "Larry King Live" . . . (--On CNN).
Excerpts from the interview were released yesterday, and in one of them, Chris tells Larry he actually DOESN'T REMEMBER assaulting RIHANNA last February.
Well, Chris would like you to know that he DOES remember it . . . and the quote is misleading out of context.
Chris issued a statement yesterday to correct that. He said, "There have been reports on the Internet that I didn't remember what happened that night with Rihanna. I want to try and set things straight.
"That 30 seconds of the interview they used of me was taken from a one hour interview during which that same question was asked something like 4 or 5 times . . . and when you look at the entire interview you will see it is not representative of what I said.
"The first four times . . . or however many times it was . . . I gave the same answer, which was that I didn't think it was appropriate for me to talk about what happened that night. I said it was not right for me and it really wasn't fair to Rihanna.
"The fifth time . . . or whatever it was . . . I just misspoke. I was asked, 'Do you remember doing it?' And I said, 'No.'
"Of course I remember what happened . . . And yes, I still can't believe it happened because it is not me or who I am or is what happened like anything I have ever done before . . .
". . . I take full responsibility for my actions. What I have to do now is to prove to the world that this was an isolated incident and that is not who I am and I intend to do so by my behavior now and in the future."
Getting back to the "Larry King" interview itself, Chris talked about accepting his punishment. He said, "Everything comes with consequences. They want me to pick up trash remove graffiti. I'm a hard worker. It's something I'm willing to do."
Chris was accompanied to the interview by his mother, Joyce Hawkins, and his attorney, Mark Geragos.
Joyce told Larry, "Chris has never, ever been a violent person, ever."
She also said she's seen Rihanna a few times since the assault, and Rihanna still calls her "Mom".
She said, "[I] let her know that I was very, very baffled, what had happened, and apologized for my son, along with I'm so sorry what happened to you.
"And I didn't know what . . . I didn't know what else to say, and I gave her a hug, and she hugged me, as well."
Chris also admits that he still loves Rihanna. And he echoes that sentiment in the new issue of "People" magazine, "I never fell out of love with her. That just wouldn't go away."
And he told Larry King that it'll be difficult for him to see Rihanna dating other guys, "I definitely would be affected by it, but, at the end of the day, I mean, we're not together, so, if she's happy, I'm cool."
Asked if he thought he'd still be with Rihanna if that night had gone differently, Chris would only say, "We'll always be friends."
Here's a clip of Chris saying he doesn't remember assaulting Rihanna.
