AN ANIMAL SHELTER IN FLORIDA ACCIDENTALLY PUT THE WRONG CAT TO SLEEP

Maria Velez is a cat-lover from Spring Hill, Florida.  Two weeks ago, she dropped off her cat, Buddy, at the Hernando County Animal Shelter so he could be tested for rabies.

But when Maria returned to the shelter to pick Buddy up, she was given another cat which sort of resembled Buddy, except it was skinnier, had a slightly different face, and was missing its tail.  So what happened? 

Apparently, someone at the shelter screwed up and, even though Buddy didn't have rabies, he was accidentally PUT TO SLEEP.

According to an official at the shelter, "This was just one of those tragedies that happens, but we don't want it to happen again.  We try so hard to get animals home and not let them get euthanized.  It tears the staff up. 

"I know it's more tragic for the owner, but it's terrible for us.  It's not what we do."   (St. Petersburg Times)
