A GUY ACCIDENTALLY RAN OVER A DOG, THEN TRIED TO "PUT IT OUT OF ITS MISERY" BY ATTACKING IT WITH A HAMMER AND A MACHETE
Monday October 19th, 2009
Now it's time for our Tragic Misunderstanding of the Day, courtesy of two self-proclaimed animal lovers from McClellanville, South Carolina.
On Thursday, 57-year-old William Youngman was driving down a rural road when a dog named Dingo suddenly darted out in front of his truck. William tried to avoid hitting Dingo, but there was nothing he could do.
Anyway, William could see Dingo was injured, and he didn't think it would be right to drive off and leave him in pain. So he got out of his truck, grabbed a MACHETE and a HAMMER from the back, and started hitting Dingo over and over.
At that point, Dingo's owner, 42-year-old James Kennedy, heard his dog crying out in pain. So James ran out of his house, grabbed the hammer from William, and started pummeling him over the head with it.
Long story short, William was rushed to the hospital where he was treated for a skull fracture, multiple facial fractures, and a punctured lung. As of last night, he was listed in good condition.
And Dingo was rushed to the veterinarian's office. Unfortunately, he had to be put to sleep.
Meanwhile, James has been charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, and malicious injury to personal property. Animal cruelty charges are also pending against William. (Post and Courier / WCBD News 2 - Charleston)
